Nigeria car import rules in 2026
- Age limit: 12 years from the year of manufacture, so 2014 or newer in 2026.
- Left-hand drive only.
- Seaports only. Nigeria has banned vehicle imports through land borders since 2017, so do not ship to Cotonou and drive in.

- New Green Tax: 2% for engines from 2,000cc to 3,999cc and 4% for 4,000cc and above. Electric cars are exempt.
- Customs values the car using its own valuation, not only your invoice.
Rules last checked: October 2026. Confirm the final charges with your licensed clearing agent.
