Jordan car import rules in 2026
- Every passenger car must meet a recognised technical regulation: GCC, Saudi, European or US. GCC spec UAE cars qualify.
- Cars classed as salvage or junk in their home country, including fire or flood damaged cars, are banned (since November 2025).
- Electric cars more than 3 years old, counting the year of customs clearance, cannot be imported.
- The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) checks conformity at customs.
- Taxes were cut on 29 June 2025: total general and special tax is about 51% of the customs value for petrol cars and 39% for hybrids. Electric cars pay a 27% special tax.
Rules last checked: November 2026. Confirm the age rules for petrol and hybrid cars and the final taxes with Jordan Customs or a licensed clearing agent.
