Oman car import rules in 2026
- Age limit: private cars must be under 7 years old. Trucks and buses must be under 10 years (Royal Oman Police and Oman Customs, April 2025).
- Since 1 July 2025 Oman needs a UAE export certificate issued by the authority where the car is registered (RTA in Dubai). The old clearance certificate is no longer accepted.
- Left-hand drive. Cars converted from right-hand drive cannot be registered.
- The Royal Oman Police warns that accident, fire or flood damaged imports can fail the technical inspection and then cannot be registered.
- After customs, the car needs an ROP technical inspection and Omani insurance before registration.
Rules last checked: November 2026. Confirm with Oman Customs or a licensed clearing agent before you pay.

Questions buyers ask
How old can a car be to import into Oman?
Private cars must be under 7 years old. Trucks and buses must be under 10 years, according to the Royal Oman Police and Oman Customs.
Which document do I need from the UAE?
Since 1 July 2025 Oman needs an export certificate from the authority where the car is registered, for example RTA in Dubai. The old clearance certificate is no longer accepted.
What taxes are due in Oman?
5% customs duty and 5% VAT. If duty was paid when the car first entered the UAE, ask your clearing agent whether it can be credited.
Can I drive the car from Dubai to Oman myself?
Many buyers do, on UAE export plates. You need Omani insurance at the border (an Orange Card) and the original export certificate. Check the current procedure with Oman Customs before you travel.
Will a repaired accident car pass in Oman?
It may not. The Royal Oman Police warns that accident, fire or flood damaged cars can fail the technical inspection and cannot then be registered. Ask for the VIN and the history first.
